About Prathertown Community Development Corporation

Historic Prathertown Founded in 1883

Prathertown was founded in 1883 by enslaved persons Moses, Marshall, Rezin and John Prather and Ann McAbeee Prather.  This 13 acre patch of history known as "Dorsey's Meadow" was purchased for $50 per acre from John Dorsey, a well-known landowner.

Founders and descendants still reside in Prathertown and have been promoting equity in entrepreneurship and education, Prathertown Community Development Corporation addresses critical challenges with creatives approaches via public private partnerships. Our support programs unifies families, creates careers and increases self sufficiency. We help families find affordable housing and deliver home ownership counseling. Through our public and private partnerships, we design and deliver technology education which leads to high income wage careers. From health and wellness, technology training, environmental education and financial literacy we design and deliver a host of much needed initiatives that drive the changes needed in our community. Most of our programs promote inter-generational connections while enjoying arts and historic preservation activities.
